Eastham was established in 1643, and was called Nawsett.  In 1651, Nawsett was renamed Eastham.

Eastham is the "parent" of two towns:  Wellfleet (1763) and Orleans (1797).  It received land from Harwich in 1772, and gave land to Orleans in 1839 and Wellfleet in 1847.  It traded land with Orleans in 1867.

Eastham is bounded on the north by Wellfleet, on the south by Orleans, on the west by Cape Cod Bay, and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
