It is the home of The College of the Holy Cross ("Holy Cross") (1843), Worcester Polytechnic Institute ("Worcester Tech," "W. P. I.") (1865), Clark University (1887), and a number of other colleges.  It is also the home of Worcester Academy Preparatory School (1834).
